Active Skin Repair and IodinePure EZ Clear Skin sit on the same shelf with the same pitch: a water-based spray with no alcohol in it and no sting. The molecule doing the work is completely different. One is hypochlorous acid, one is iodine, and they behave differently once the bottle is open.

Before anything else: we make one of these, so read this as a comparison written by an interested party. Everything below comes off published labels and published literature so you can check it yourself, and where their bottle is the better fit for you I've said so plainly.

Labels and bottle sizes checked on both brand sites in August 2026. You'll notice there's no price row. That's deliberate: both brands run promotions, and IodinePure is priced differently in Canada and the United States, so any figure typed into an article is out of date faster than the article is. Both brands publish current pricing on their own product pages, which is the only place worth reading it.
What is hypochlorous acid?
It's a molecule your own neutrophils make, which is a genuinely interesting fact and the reason the category exists at all.
A 2025 review across dermatology, surgery, dentistry and ophthalmology sets out the practical properties. Hypochlorous acid is a weak acid with a pKa around 7.4 to 7.5, so which form you have depends on the pH of the solution, and stability is best held between pH 3.5 and 5.5. The same review notes that wound-care formulations cleared in the United States typically carry 100 to 200 ppm.
Active Skin Repair's 0.012% is about 120 ppm, which sits inside that range. That's worth saying plainly: it isn't a token amount.
The trade-off with hypochlorous acid is stability. The review notes fresh solutions perform better than material that's been sitting, and light and heat are what degrade it. That's why every serious hypochlorous product ships in an opaque bottle with storage instructions, and why an old one in a hot bathroom is a different product from a new one.
Does Active Skin Repair work?
On the ingredient, the answer is reasonable: 120 ppm of hypochlorous acid sits inside the 100 to 200 ppm range the 2025 review describes for wound-care formulations cleared in the United States, so the bottle is carrying a real amount of a real molecule. What varies is the bottle in your hand rather than the chemistry on paper.
Two things decide that. Age, because the same review is clear that fresh solutions outperform stored ones, so a bottle bought last winter and kept on a sunny windowsill is not the product that was tested. And fit, because it is positioned for cuts, scrapes and skin after a procedure, and people who buy it as a daily face mist are measuring it against a job it was not built for.
That is also the thing to hold in mind when reading Active Skin Repair reviews. Star averages on a product like this mix two different customers: the person who used it once on road rash and the person spraying twice a day for a month. Read for which one the reviewer is, whether they say how old the bottle was, and whether they describe the same use you have in mind. A three-star review from someone using it for the wrong job tells you nothing about your job.
What is aqueous iodine?
It's iodine carried in water, with no alcohol in the bottle. Iodine has been on skin since the 1800s, and the version most people have met is the brown stuff that stains everything it touches.
As an ingredient it's unusually well documented. A review of povidone iodine in wound healing points to a broad spectrum of activity with no associated resistance. That's evidence about iodine as an ingredient in a different formulation, not a claim about our bottle, and it's worth keeping those two things separate.
The relevant contrast is with the pharmacy alternative. There's an FDA-registered Decolorized Iodine label on DailyMed listing 45% alcohol and warning that it will stain skin and clothing. That's the product sold as the gentle, clear version of iodine. It stings and it stains.
EZ Clear Skin is aqueous. Two ingredients, no alcohol, decolorized. That's a description of what's in the bottle, and it's the entire reason people who gave up on iodine years ago look at it again.
What is each bottle actually for?
One is for the moment something happens. The other is for the days when nothing does. This is the question a price comparison stands in front of, and it's the one that decides whether you're still happy in a month.
Active Skin Repair is built around a moment. The brand leads on cuts, scrapes, road rash, sunburn and skin after a procedure, it carries an active ingredient on the label, and in the US it's HSA and FSA eligible, which tells you exactly how it's meant to be shelved. It's the bottle you reach for when something has happened.
EZ Clear Skin is built around the days when nothing has happened. Two ingredients, no alcohol, decolorized, so it can sit on the counter and get picked up every morning without turning a pillowcase brown or making a teenager flinch. It's a routine bottle, not an incident bottle.
Those are different jobs and plenty of bathrooms have room for both. If the one you're short of is the everyday one, that's EZ Clear Skin.
Which one suits which person?
Neither of these is the right answer for everyone, and the honest split looks like this.
Active Skin Repair makes more sense if you want a US HSA or FSA eligible purchase, you want a product with a dedicated kids SKU, you want the bottle that's positioned for first aid, or you specifically want hypochlorous acid because you've used it before and got on with it.
EZ Clear Skin makes more sense if you want the shortest ingredient list you can find, you don't want to think about light and heat degrading what you bought, you want something you'll actually use daily rather than occasionally, or you're already using iodine elsewhere in the house and would rather keep one chemistry.
Neither is right if what you're dealing with is a deep wound, a burn, an animal bite, or anything showing spreading redness, heat, swelling, pus or a fever. That's a clinician, not a spray, and no bottle on a shelf changes that.

What do both categories skip?
Both skip the step that comes before the purchase, which is working out what you are looking at. Neither of these products is a diagnosis, and the most common way people waste money on skin is buying the wrong category rather than the wrong brand.
Uniform itchy bumps with no blackheads are not ordinary acne. Scaly itchy patches in a skin fold are not the same as chafing. Getting the identification right beats optimising the purchase, every time.

Which spray is cheaper?
Check both brand sites, because that is the only place the answer is current. Promotions move, and IodinePure is priced differently in Canada and the United States, so a figure printed in an article is wrong sooner than you would think. The more useful question is how long a bottle lasts you, and that depends on how much you spray and how often rather than on the brand.
The bottom line
Same shelf, same no-sting hook, two different molecules with two different housekeeping problems. Hypochlorous acid asks you to respect light and heat. Iodine asks you to get past the memory of the brown stuff.
